British Boxers to Look For in 2023

British Boxers to Look For in 2023: Josh Taylor

32-year-old Scottish boxer Josh Taylor has enjoyed a memorable pro career thus far, winning all 19 of his contests, with 13 by way of knockout. He was last seen in the ring when he won a controversial split decision over Jack Catterall. The Chorley native boxed superbly throughout but was second best in the judge’s eyes as the fight was scored 114–111 and 113–112 in Taylor’s favour and 113–112 for Catterall.

The WBO and Ring magazine light-welterweight world champion is set to return to the ring in a mouthwatering contest against Teofimo Lopez. The bout has been ordered by the WBO.

Callum Smith

Callum Smith is the former holder of the WBA (Super) and Ring magazine super-middleweight titles and holds noticeable wins over George Groves and a close points win over John Ryder.

The Liverpudlian native earned himself a dream fight against Canelo Alvarez in San Antonio, Texas. The Mexican superstar won comfortably via unanimous decision. Smith is due back in the ring against Pawel Stepien on March 11th, knowing a win will likely earn him a shot against the unified light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev.

Tyson Fury

Tyson Fury has conquered the heavyweight division. He is the current WBC heavyweight champion of the world and the current lineal heavyweight champion. The “Gypsy King” memorably clawed himself off the canvas to draw with Deontay Wilder before systematically destroying him in their next two fights.

Negotiations for a unification fight against Oleksandr Usyk are currently ongoing, with an announcement expected shortly, with Wembley being the reported favourite to host this historic fight. This super-fight alone will make Tyson one of the British boxers to look for in 2023.

Anthony Joshua

Antony Joshua is entering the most important stage of his career. Following back-to-back defeats against Usyk, AJ is set to return to the ring against tough American Jermaine Franklin.

Joshua tasted defeat for the first time in his career against Andy Ruiz but boxed smartly in the rematch, winning a wide margin points decision. He was unable to outsmart Usyk, losing both fights on the judge’s scorecard. All eyes will be on AJ when he returns against Franklin on April 1, at Londons 02 arena. A win for Joshua will surely make him one of the British boxers to look for in 2023.

Chantelle Cameron

Chantelle Cameron is enjoying a wonderful professional career, becoming a two-weight world champion. The Northampton-born fighter has won all 17 professional fights.

Cameron’s career-high points thus far are the brilliant unanimous points win over Mary McGee in their unification clash. She then showed her class by winning a points decision over Jessica McCaskill to retain her WBC, IBF and Ring female light-welterweight titles; while winning the WBA, WBO, and IBO female light-welterweight titles.

The win over McCaskill in Abu Dhabi made Cameron the United Kingdom’s first undisputed female boxing world champion and one of the best British boxers to look for in 2023.
