The United States has a rich boxing history and it is not short of talented boxers.
Even today, a number of talented young boxers ply their trade in the country. For some, it will not be long before they go to become legitimate contenders and eventually, world champions. In this article, Big Fight Weekend presents five of the sports’ American prospects to keep an eye on in 2025.
Five American Boxing Prospects to Keep an Eye on in 2025
Emiliano Vargas
Emiliano Vargas (12-0, 10 KOs) is a 20-year-old super lightweight who has been an active professional for just over two years. His father is Fernando Vargas, a two-time super welterweight champion who was quite popular at his peak. Given who his father is, it is not hard to see why Vargas also ended up being a boxer.
If the name sounds familiar, it is likely because you have seen young Vargas on a Top Rank card. The company also serves as his promoter. Expect to continue seeing Vargas on Top Rank undercards throughout 2025.
Curmel Moton
Still only 18 years old, Curmel Moton (7-0, 6 KOs) is a lightweight has already been getting a lot of hype. As a result, his fights are generally on the YouTube prelims portion of PBC events. Moton is promoted by Mayweather Promotions and part of the reason for the hype around him is his affiliation with that company and his youth.
Despite being 18 and only having seven fights under his belt, the young American is already fighting eight-rounders. Expectations are high when it comes to Moton. For the remainder of 2025, expect to see him on PBC undercards.
Joel Iriarte
Joel Iriarte (5-0, 5 KOs) only made his professional debut early in 2024, but he has already made an impression. None of his fights so far have gone past the second round. Promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, all five of his fights have been on their undercards.
Iriarte is a welterweight currently fighting in six-rounders. Expect Golden Boy Promotions to use 2025 to develop the 21 year old and to continue featuring him on their undercards.
Steven Navarro
Steven Navarro (5-0, 4 KOs) made his professional debut on a Matchroom card, but has since signed with Top Rank and fights on their undercards. His most recent ring appearance was on the undercard of Emanuel Navarrete vs. Óscar Valdez. Navarro currently boxes at super flyweight.
Like Iriarte, Navarro also entered the professional ranks in 2024. Expect the 20 year old to continue his development on Top Rank undercards in 2025.
Iyana Verduzco
Iyana Verduzco (3-0, 1 KO) is a featherweight who has been fighting on 360 Promotions cards as of late. She made her debut in late 2023 on a Golden Boy Promotions event. Verduzco only had one fight in 2024, but so far in 2025 she has already fought once and has another bout scheduled for April. This year should see the 23 year old continue to develop on 360 Promotions undercards.
