Ahead of their July 6 showdown, Big Fight Weekend looks at what both fighters have said about their clash.
William Zepeda vs. Giovanni Cabrera Quotes
William Zepeda
“This fight will be a very competitive fight and a very complicated fight,” said Zepeda through an interpreter at a press conference in May. “We expect for Giovanni Cabrera to come with everything that he has, just like how he has done in his previous fights. We know that he is a very strong fighter; to be able to go 12-rounds with someone like Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz tells us he is a very powerful fighter. We are preparing very well in camp right now to ensure we are ready to give a very entertaining fight to fans on July 6. I love to challenge my skillset against high level fighters like Giovanni Cabrera to prove to everyone that we are ready for the big names out there in the division.”
Giovanni Cabrera
“I think some people are looking for safe ways to [the] title and I’ve made a reputation for myself – although many people may or may not know [I’ve beaten] seven undefeated fighters coming up, three of them southpaws. Ray Lampkin Jr., who was an Olympic alternate, Elijah Pierce, you know, those wins have aged well. Luis Porozo was 14-0 when I fought him. I’ve been put in these positions before, and this is what it takes. It allows me to elevate, to rise to the occasion. I need excitement. I want to fight good fighters,” said Cabrera to BoxingScene.
Fight Prediction
Cabrera is a fighter who is comfortable going the distance. His last seven fights have all made it to the final bell. However, doing so against Zepeda is a difficult task. “El Camarón” throws a high volume of punches and few can avoid a stoppage loss against him. Cabrera’s style may allow him to make it into the later rounds, but expect him to get stopped eventually. Zepeda by late stoppage is our prediction for this fight.
