Oscar De La Hoya Reveals Future Fight Plans for Vergil Ortiz Jr.
Vergil Ortiz Jr. (23-0, 21 KOs) is fast becoming one of the most feared fighters, always prepared to face anyone. His previous health problems, which kept him out of the ring following his win over Michael McKinson until his controversial early KO win over Frederick Lawson appear behind him. He has won all four fights since his return and Oscar De La Hoya has spoken to FightHype about the plans for Ortiz, which include some huge fights for the Texan fighter.

De La Hoya Teases Huge Homecoming Fight for Ortiz
Following his return in January 2024, Ortiz has impressed in his four fights, winning two by KO. Since those two wins, he has scored an impressive victory over the tough Ukrainian Serhii Bohachuk, surviving two knockdowns to triumph via a majority decision. His most recent fight saw him overcome a difficult start to deservedly beat Israil Madrimov by a unanimous decision showcasing his impressive ring IQ and pressure tactics which ground down his opponent.
Ortiz has shown his impressive attributes since his return and when speaking to FightHype, De La Hoya reflected on the last two fights for Ortiz: “Vergil is coming off two tough fights which can be tough on the body as well and tough on the mind.”
De La Hoya then revealed his plans for Ortiz: “I’m thinking about doing a homecoming party for him in Dallas and fighta top 10 guy. Then go after Fundora and then go after Crawford after he comes back down to 154 after he fights Canelo at 168.”
Possible Opponent for Vergil Ortiz Jr. in Dallas
“There’s a lot of options out there for Vergil. I’m excited. Imagine if we can put together a Vergil-Spence fight at Dallas Stadium at the Cowboys Stadium. That would sell out the place. I think that’s something to consider as well. There’s some good options for Vergil,” said the Golden Boy founder regarding a potential Spence bout in Dallas.
