Three Potential Next Opponents for Ryan Garcia

Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) stunned many in his majority decision win against Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) on April 20.

The two fighters headlined a Golden Boy Promotions event at the Barclays Center in New York City, NY, presented in association with Matchroom Boxing, Haney Promotions and KingRy Promotions. Fight fans could catch the action live on DAZN as a PPV, in addition to PPV.com. Though Haney was the reigning WBC super lightweight champion, Garcia couldn’t win the title due to not making weight.

As is customary following any bout, attention turns towards possible future opponents for the victor. Big Fight Weekend brings you three possible opponents for “King Ry.”

Who Could Be Next for Ryan Garcia?

Devin Haney Rematch

In their post-fight interviews, both men expressed an interest in fighting each other again. Given how this fight turned out, a rematch would attract significant interest from the public and be highly profitable for those involved. However, Garcia spoke about moving up to welterweight and stressed that he could not make 140 lbs. If a rematch were indeed to take place, it would likely be at the 147-lb limit.

Gervonta Davis Rematch

Yet another rematch that would be highly profitable to those involved and attract significant interest. Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) is set to take on Frank Martin in a lightweight bout. To rematch Garcia, he would have to jump up two weight classes. Promoter Oscar De La Hoya did suggest a fight at a 144 or 145-lb catchweight. Whether such a rematch will occur remains to be seen.

Alexis Rocha

Given Garcia’s intention to move up to welterweight – a bout against Alexis Rocha (24-2, 16 KOs) could make sense. Both are with Golden Boy Promotions and operate at 147 lbs, making this should be straightforward. It would also help Garcia test the waters at welterweight before going after the division’s elite. This may not be the most lucrative fight, but does require minimal hassle to make.
