“Kingry” shocked the boxing world with a career-high win against Haney. The failed tests for Ostarine were to follow and led to more unusual behaviour from Garcia. The Victorville native then agreed to serve a one-year ban for the failed tests, leaving him suspended in the U.S. until at least April 2025. His win over Haney was then changed to a no-contest. On the latest Fight Freaks Unite/Big Fight Weekend podcast, Dan Rafael revealed the latest on Ryan Garcia’s injury, which stopped him from appearing in his planned exhibition against Rukiya Anpo in Tokyo: “The card itself went forward, but Ryan Garcia had to withdraw because in December he suffered an injury to his right wrist,” revealed Rafael.
He continued: “During the broadcast that they had of the card that went on in its place, I guess Ryan Garcia was there, and Ryan announced during the interview when he talked to the folks that were doing the broadcast that not only was he going to be out because of the injury, you know, still wasn’t sure when they can reschedule that exhibition, but that he was going to have surgery on that right wrist at some point.”

The Future
The future for Garcia remains uncertain, with the exhibition bout seemingly shelved indefinitely. His ban will end in April this year, and with the injury, we will hopefully see “Kingry” back in action by the summer. A fully focused Ryan Garcia back in action will be a huge shot in the arm for boxing.
