Report- Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder Third Fight Could Be Postponed
The ongoing saga of a potential third fight between WBC Heavyweight Champion, Tyson Fury and the former champ, Deontay Wilder, took another crazy turn on Thursday afternoon.
That’s when ESPN boxing insider Mike Coppinger reported that an apparent Covid-19 outbreak has happened amongst members of Fury training team. Thus, calling into question whether the third fight will be postponed from its July 24th date in Las Vegas?
Sources: Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder 3 will likely be postponed after a COVID-19 outbreak in the heavyweight champ’s camp. No official determination yet on the fight proceeding as planned for July 24 in Las Vegas on ESPN+ PPV. Details:https://t.co/vp1mFuXMaR

Coppinger did not specify whom exactly tested positive in his report. Obviously, the biggest concern is whether Fury himself is positive for the virus and that would likely postpone the fight at least several weeks?
The third fight between the two came together very quickly after Wilder and his lawyers successfully won an arbitration case in May to have the rematch clause from their February 2020 fight upheld. This scuttled the proposed Anthony Joshua – Fury Undisputed title fight that Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn had been trying to peddle for the first four months of this year.
Fury, 30-0-1, 21 KOs, defeated Wilder, 42-1-1, 41 KOs, by seventh-round TKO in their matchup in Las Vegas and had originally intended to have their third fight last Summer. That is until the Covid-19 pandemic over took everything, including shutting down boxing for over 90 days. The aftermath, including not being able to have fans attend repeatedly delayed Fury-Wilder 3 from being able to happen deep into the fall.
The two fighters were part of the initial press conference in Los Angeles last month announcing their July 24th PPV to be joint broadcasted by Fox Sports and ESPN. The fighters were going to have their next press conference in Las Vegas the week of the bout.
It’s unclear whether one or both of the participants have been vaccinated for the Covid-19 virus? And, that is obviously a huge important fact, especially if Fury has been exposed or has tested positive.
It should also be noted, that if Fury doesn’t have a positive test, that the fight could be delayed by a week or two without much difficulty. This, as PBC Fox/Top Rank ESPN do not have an important championship fights for either the following weekend, July 31st or the weekend after of August 7th.
Further, it’s an interesting fact there are no other significant Championship fights being held by any promotion anywhere those two potential weekends.
The most significant fight looming for August is the Manny Pacquiao – Errol Spence Unified World Welterweight Title pay-per-view also to be held in Las Vegas on the 21st.
