Report- Matchroom has USA fight dates ready to go

With boxing cards being put together worldwide at a more rapid pace, Matchroom Boxing continues to solidify its schedule for the remainder of the year.

And, the good news for fight fans in the USA is a Tuesday night report says several of them are in the works for American cities.

Boxing Insider Dan Rafael reported for Boxingscene.com that Matchroom will partner with DAZN streaming in the U.S. at least three times and maybe more, before the end of the year,

According to Rafael, the first fight card will be in late October and will either be on Friday night the 23rd or perhaps Sunday the 25th from the Azteca Television Studios in Mexico City. That card will feature WBC Super Flyweight World Champ, Juan Estrada, in defense of his title likely against fellow Mexican contender, Carlos Cuadras. The co-feature will have fellow WBA Super flyweight Champion, Ramon “Chocolatito” Gonzalez in action, but at this time, it’s believed that his bout will be a non-title one.

It is expected that Hearn and Matchroom will pair Estrada and “Chocolatitio” in a 115 lb. World Unification Title showdown in early 2021. Gonzalez defeated Estrada in a meeting early in their careers in 2012.

Next, Rafael reported that the WBC World Lightweight champion, Californian Devin Haney, will be back in action likely on Saturday November 7th at a site yet to be determined. Haney (photo at top) comes off shoulder surgery after his last victory in December. It is believed that he will be fighting either former Featherweight world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa or potentially current WBC Featherweight World Title holder, Gary Russell Jr., who would move up two weight classes for the title shot.

Our Marquis Johns wrote last week that the belief is the Haney fight will be against Gamboa, who was last in action in a valiant TKO loss last December to unbeaten Junior Lightweight Champion, Gervonta Davis. In the fight Gamboa suffered a ruptured Achilles and yet, continued to battle on against Davis for several more rounds before finally being stopped in the 12th.

Rafael also says that Croatian unbeaten, rising Heavyweight Filip Hrgovic will probably be in action against American journeyman contender Rydell Booker on that same November 7th card.

These proposed fight cards will be welcomed by the floundering DAZN streaming service, which has only had two fight cards from the U.S. to televise over the last four months. One was a Golden Boy Promotions show in California in July and a the Matchroom card in Tulsa, OK.

Finally, Rafael has learned that former IBF middleweight champion at Daniel Jacobs will headline a third Matchroom USA card on either Friday night, November 27th or Saturday night, November 28th. There is not a set opponent as of yet for Jacobs and it’s unclear whether he will fight at Middleweight or Super-middleweight. He was last in action last December with a 5th round TKO of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Rafael also reported the rising Junior Featherweight Unified Champion, Murodjon Akhmadaliev, may be the co-feature on the Jacobs card in November. The Ubek, Akhmadaliev outfought WBA/IBF 122 lb. champion, Daniel Roman, earning a split decision victory in January.
