The Magnificent Seven
The seven fights on this card look set to provide all in attendance and at home a memorable night of boxing. Frank Warren said regarding the card: “Seven big title fights on one big night is a veritable banquet of boxing for sports fans to feast on and a number of our young stars are really stepping up for the occasion.” He added: “If you love boxing, Birmingham is the place to be on March 16.”
At the press conference on January 18, Warren said: “Everybody is in a competitive fight.” Looking at the card – it is easy to agree with the co-owner of Queensberry Promotions. There is a fascinating mixture of established fighters and up-and-coming talent, and it looks set to be a night of competitive high-level boxing.
Eithan James vs. Owen Cooper
A fascinating battle of undefeated talents will grace the Queensberry card – with Eithan James (12-0, 0 KOs) taking on Owen Cooper (9-0, 3 KOs), the current Midlands area champion. Two promising talents will be looking to increase their 100% professional record.
Dennis McCann vs. Brad Strand
At super bantamweight, Commonwealth champion Dennis McCann (14-0-1, 8 KOs) will clash undefeated WBO European champion Brad Strand (11-0, 3 KOs) for the vacant WBO Intercontinental title, with both trading verbals at the January 18 presser.
Zach Parker vs. Tyron Zeuge
WBO International super middleweight champion Zach Parker (23-1, 17 KOs) will be taking on Tyron Zeuge (27-1-1, 15 KOs) on the card. Parker will be eager for a productive 2024 after only fighting once since his defeat to John Ryder.
Soloman Dacres vs. TBA
Current English heavyweight champion Soloman Dacres (8-0, 2 KOs) will fight an opponent, still to be announced, in a 10-round bout on the card. At the press conference, Dacres spoke about potentially facing David Adeleye: “Expect more of the same,” referring to Adeleye’s defeat to Fabio Wardley.
Joe Joyce vs. Kash Ali
Joe Joyce(15-2, 14 KOs) will return to the ring in a surprising match-up against the former IBF European champion Kash Ali (21-2, 12 KOs). “Juggernaut” will fight for the first time since his brutal KO loss to Zhilei Zhang. Some of you may remember Ali from his fight against David Price in 2019 when he was disqualified for biting his Liverpudlian opponent. Ali later received a six-month suspension by the British Boxing Board of Control.
Liam Davies vs. Erik Robles
Liam Davies (15-0, 7 KOs), the current British, WBC International and European champion, will fight Mexican IBO world super bantamweight titlist Erik Robles (15-1, 9 KOs) for the IBO strap. Davies needs to utilise his impressive ring IQ to overcome his Mexican opponent.
Nathan Heaney vs. Brad Pauls
Reigning British middleweight champion Nathan Heaney (18-0, 6 KOs), who claimed the title in a memorable win over Denzel Bentley, will now make his first defence against the English champion Brad Pauls (18-1, 10 KOs). When talking at the presser about this fight, Pauls said: “This is my time to step up and take my opportunity.“
