Jaron Ennis Commits His Future
Eddie Hearn and Matchroom have signed the IBF world welterweight champion Ennis to a multi-fight deal, with the unbeaten 26-year-old set to return this summer for the first defence of his IBF strap. The signing of “Boots” is a massive coup for Matchroom and DAZN.
In his last fight, he defended his interim title, knocking out Roiman Villa in an eye-catching style in round 10 of their clash in Atlantic City. “Boots” captured the interim belt at the beginning of 2023 when he beat Karen Chukhadzhian. His knockout percentage of 90.32% means whoever steps in the ring against Ennis needs to bring their A-game to stand any chance.

He was promoted to IBF champion status in November 2023 after the undisputed welterweight king Terence Crawford was forced to relinquish the title. It will be interesting to see what fights can be delivered for Ennis now he’s got Hearn and Matchroom supporting him.
Ennis Career Recapped
“Boots” enjoyed an impressive amateur career, which saw him win a silver and gold medal at the U.S. Golden Gloves Championship in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Following his professional debut, where he stopped Cory Muldrew on April 30, 2016, he fought another seven times that year. His most impressive wins aside from Villa have come against Sergey Lipinets, Custio Clayton and the then-unbeaten Armando Alvarez.

Ennis possesses a brilliant jab which he can use to the body or head, and he uses it brilliantly to control the distance and dominate his fights. When you watch “Boots” fight, he uses the double jab brilliantly to keep his opponents guessing and off balance. His lateral movement is also impressive, enabling him to create new openings to attack.
It will be fascinating to see where “Boots” goes under the Matchroom banner. There’s no doubt he has all the ability to go to the very top.
