Janibek Alimkhanuly Forced to Withdraw from Andrei Mikhailovich Bout

It has been announced that Janibek Alimkhanuly (15-0, 10 KOs) has been forced to withdraw from his WBO and IBF title defence against Andrei Mikhailovich (21-0, 13 KOs) at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. The middleweight bout was due to be the main event of a Top Rank-promoted card on ESPN+ in the United States and Sky Sports in the UK.

The announcement of Alimkhanuly withdrawing from his title defence will have undoubtedly shocked all involved as much as it did the boxing community, who were eagerly awaiting the return of the fearsome Kazak puncher.

The shocking news detailed that theQazaq Stylewas hospitalised on the evening of June 11 due to dehydration. His manager Egis Klimas has revealed more details regarding the surprising withdrawal of his fighter, declaring:Janibek was cutting the final pounds last night when he fainted.”

He continued: We immediately took him to Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center, where he was put on an IV. While the scans showed no kidney damage, he was severely dehydrated and in no condition to fight.”

It remains to be seen what this means for Janibek in the future and how much time he will need to recover. It’s a hammer blow for the Kazak fighter who is eager to move on to bigger bouts.

Top Rank have confirmed the card will continue with the 10-round lightweight showdown between the rising star Raymond Muratalla and former world champion Tevin Farmer now being the main event.
