Oscar De La Hoya Speaks on Gabriela Fundora Deal
Oscar De La Hoya could not hide his delight via the Golden Boy press release, with the deal for Fundora: “We were blown away by Gabriela’s performance in October, and are proud to have yet another world champion fighting under the Golden Boy banner,” said Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya. “At just 21 years old, the sky’s the limit for her and I fully expect her to deliver a knockout performance in Phoenix on January 27.”

Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing also spoke on the potential of “Sweet Poison:” “Gabriela Fundora is an amazing talent who works non-stop in the gym to reach her dreams.” He continued: “They say once you win a championship, confidence makes you an even better fighter, which is bad news for Christina Cruz. I’m looking forward to a sensational performance from boxing’s newest female star, “Sweet Poison,” Gabriela Fundora.”
Fundora Talks Legacy
“I am ready and prepared for my first title defense and I feel like nothing can stop me from winning,” said Fundora. “Christina Cruz is a good fighter, but I am building my legacy as a champion and no one can stop me.”
“Sweet Poison” was last seen in the ring winning the IBF title from the experienced Arely Muciño. She is adept at using her jab and controlling the distance. Fundora is also an impressive counterpuncher, which she showcased in her win against Naomi Reyes. “Sweet Poison” can also sit in the pocket and put together combinations. With the help of Golden Boy, this 21-year-old looks set for a memorable 2024.
