The 5 Biggest Deontay Wilder Knockouts

On Saturday, December 23, Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) will return to the ring for the first time since he destroyed Robert Helenius with a massive first-round KO. “The Bronze Bomber” will take on Joseph Parker as part of the “Day of Reckoning” event at the Kingdom Arena, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Deontay Wilder vs. Artur Szpilka

Wilder faced Artur Szpilka on January 16, 2016, at the Barclays Centre in New York City. The Polish fighter started well and proved awkward for the “Bronze Bomber” as he slipped punches and countered effectively in the southpaw stance.

Round nine came around, and Szpilka came out of his shell, and Wilder, with his Olympic pedigree, perfectly timed a powerful right hand, which caught the Pole flush on the face, sending him crashing to the canvas. At the time of the stoppage, Wilder was ahead on all three scorecards: 78-74 x2 and 77-75.

Deontay Wilder vs. Luis Ortiz II

At the end of 2019, Wilder and Luiz Ortiz took part in a rematch of their 2018 fight – and this rematch showed a sign of the Alabama native that many of us had not seen before.

Ortiz was boxing and moving well, frustrating “The Bronze Bomber” for large parts of the fight. The Cuban fighter hurt his American opponent and was outboxing him for large parts until Wilder landed a crushing right hand – leaving his Cuban opponent helpless on the canvas, awarding the American fighter a seventh-round KO victory. Winning this fight gave Wilder the tenth successful consecutive defence of his heavyweight title, which moved him level with Muhammad Ali.

Robert Helenius

On October 15, 2022, “The Bronze Bomber” went up against Finnish heavyweight Robert Helenius, who was on a high after defeating Adam Kownacki the previous year. Wilder had been out of the ring for one year since he lost the third fight against Tyson Fury.

Soon into the opening round, Wilder threw an unconventional short right hand, which poleaxed the Finnish fighter and awarded the American fighter an impressive comeback win.

Dominic Breazeale

After his memorable split decision draw against Fury, Wilder faced Dominic Breazeale on May 18, 2019 – and took care of business in a destructive fashion.

Wilder wanted to make a statement, with many feeling Fury deserved the win, and after two minutes of round one, that statement was made as Wilder landed a beautifully timed right-hand bomb. The punch hit his opponent straight on the chin, leaving him unable to continue and awarding “The Bronze Bomber” his twenty-first-opening round stoppage of his career.

Gerald Washington

On February 25, 2017, Wilder faced off against Gerald Washington, a late replacement after Andrzej Wawrzyk failed a drug test. The fight took place at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Washington started well and was the aggressor through the opening rounds before he felt the power of “The Bronze Bomber” in round five as he rocked Washington against the ropes. Wilder continued to attack with brutal accuracy, forcing the referee to intervene and award the Alabama native a fifth-round TKO victory.

Wilder was full of confidence when he spoke to Dan Rafael and promised an emphatic victory against Parker: “I’m going to punish him.
