‘I Think That He’ll Duck the Fight’: Eddie Hearn Talks Anthony Cacace vs. Eduardo Nunez

As the boxing year progresses, there will be plenty more negotiations for big fights as we move towards 2025. The super featherweight division has seen some memorable contests this year with Anthony Cacace (23-1, 8 KOs) defeating then-unbeaten Joe Cordina to add the IBF title to his IBO strap. The Belfast native then beat Josh Warrington to keep both of his titles. Eddie Hearn has spoken with the Mannix and Mora podcast on the IBF mandatory challenger Eduardo Nunez (27-1, 27 KOs) and whether he believes that fight with “Anto” will happen.

Will Anthony Cacace Face IBF Mandatory Eduardo Nunez Next?

Eddie Hearn Discusses Potential Cacace-Nunez Contest

Chris Mannix asked Hearn about the latest on the possible fight between Cacace and his mandatory for the IBF title, Nunez: “It’s a bit of a frustrating one because obviously there are friends now at Queensberry and we are working it out amicably.”

He continued: “I’m desperate for that fight because it’s now 7-4 to Queensberry since the start of Riyadh Season. We won one last weekend. No one wants to talk about the big win for Shabaz Masoud (vs. Liam Davies). But we did have a big win over Queensberry last weekend.”

Hearn added: “I just don’t think Cacace will take the fight if I’m honest. I think that he’ll duck the fight and they’ll say it’s because Nunez isn’t a big enough name and blah, blah, blah. We know boxing well enough to know that.”

Nunez vs. Cacace

Hearn continued about Cacace-Nunez and revealed what he thinks “Anto” will do: “I do really rate Anto Cacace and I think he’s really strong and I think stylistically it’s a wonderful fight but I’m almost certain they will vacate the title and then it will be Sugar Nunez against the next available which is the Japanese fighter. I think (Masanori) Rikiishi or something. Good fight and then I want to make Sugar Nunez against Ray Ford.”
