Eddie Hearn Reveals ‘Massive Fight’ He Wants to Make for Diego Pacheco Before World Title Shot

On August 31, Diego Pacheco (22-0, 18 KOs) successfully defended his WBC USA and WBO International super middleweight titles against Maciej Sulęcki (32-3, 12 KOs) at the Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson. The entire Matchroom Boxing card was shown globally on DAZN.

After a patient start from Pacheco, he began to find a home for his right hand as the rounds progressed. His Polish opponent had his moments, punching in between shots from Pacheco. The 23-year-old had Sulęcki in trouble who was grateful to hear the bell after facing a barrage of punches. A stunning left hook liver shot in round six left the Polish fighter in agony and unable to beat the count, awarding Pacheco another impressive KO victory. After the fight, Eddie Hearn spoke to Chris Mannix and revealed that he wants next for his fighter, who is set to be the mandatory to the winner of Canelo Alvarez against Edgar Berlanga.

“But we need another fight. We need a fight in between,” he continued.

Pacheco vs. Jaime Munguía

Hearn then revealed: “The fight I would love to make is Diego Pacheco against Jaime Munguía. I think that is a brilliant, brilliant fight.”

Talking about the potential Munguía fight, the Matchroom CEO said: “In Los Angeles, California, Diego Pacheco against Jaime Munguia is a massive fight. We go from here to the Staples Center, that sells out the Staples Center in double-quick time.”

It appears Pacheco is ready for the next step, and a fight against Munguía is a risky but fascinating prospect with the 23-year-old waiting for the Alvarez-Berlanga winner.

“It’s gonna happen, we gotta be ready when it happens and that kind of fight is going to prepare us to what destiny presents for Diego Pacheco,” Hearn said, “which is bringing a world championship back to Los Angeles.”
