Devin Haney vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko Is Now Official For May 20
After weeks of speculation about whether the fight would be in the UAE or Las Vegas, the undisputed lightweight title fight will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 20th. Undisputed champion Devin Haney (29-0) will put all of the belts on the line against Vasiliy Lomachenko (17-2) in a fight that looks to display high-level chess.
Haney has taken a ton of criticism for a while as he hadn’t faced the big names within the lightweight division but still wanted to be considered one of the best. After fulfilling his obligations with Matchroom & DAZN, Haney signed a deal with Dibella Entertainment and Top Rank, allowing him to fight for the undisputed crown. After winning the titles in Australia and returning there to defend them, Haney wanted the next biggest challenge before heading north to the junior welterweight division. That challenge was Lomachenko, and the time is now for Haney to show that he is a guy that should be considered for placement on the pound-for-pound list.
Lomachenko had a quiet 2022 as he only fought once, but it was against a very game Jamaine Ortiz who gave him one hell of a fight. Although it was a unanimous decision victory for Lomachenko, it looked as though he was showing signs of vulnerability as he is now 35. Although fans would argue that maybe Loma couldn’t get up for the Ortiz fight, you better believe we will all see the best version of himself as he looks to become the undisputed champion.
It’s the perfect time for Haney to fight Loma, and if he wants to get his just due, this fight is the beginning of that process. This undisputed matchup will be on ESPN+ PPV and is priced at $59.99.
In a press release sent out by Top Rank earlier today, Haney said, “Lomachenko is a good fighter and future Hall of Fame candidate. I take nothing away from him or what he has done in the sport of boxing. Although he didn’t give me a shot when I challenged him in 2019, I won’t be petty. This is the fight the fans really want, and I made it happen. I’ve gotten two times better since the Kambosos rematch, and believe it or not, the better my opponent is, the better I perform. I can’t wait for this fight. I know Lomachenko has an extremely high boxing IQ, and I will show the world on May 20th that I’m the best fighter on the planet. I’m ready to defend my undisputed title in devastating fashion.”
Each move has led to this moment.

Within the same release, Lomachenko shared his thoughts as he finally has an opportunity to become an undisputed champion. “My goal is to become the undisputed lightweight champion, and Devin Haney is the man with the belts. I respect his boxing IQ and am excited for this challenge.”
