The light heavyweight division recently witnessed a generational fight on October 12, where Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol collided in what was an intriguing undisputed showdown. It now appears the 175-pound division will see another fascinating fight, with Dan Rafael revealing on the latest Big Fight Weekend podcast that David Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) and David Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) will meet for the WBC interim light heavyweight title on Feb 1 at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. PBC have previously confirmed the fight, but now the when and where are reportedly set.

Both are undefeated in their professional careers, with both being new at 175 pounds, with Benavidez defeating Oleksandr Gvozdyk. Scores for the clash were 119-109, 117-111 and 116-112 for Benavidez. Morrell also won his debut at 175, defeating Radivoje Kalajdzic by unanimous decision with the judge’s scorecards reading 118-110 and 117-111 x2.

It’s a testament to the bravery and determination of both fighters to be the best and Rafael has provided the details we have all been waiting for: “I was always told it was going to be January 25, or early February, probably at the T-Mobile Arena. As it turns out, it will now be on February 1 at the T-Mobile Arena. That is what I have been told by multiple sources that are involved with this event. It will be a PBC, Prime Video PPV,” said Rafael.

Possible Undercard and Stature of Main Event

Speaking about the possible undercard, Rafael said: “Presumably, they will load up the undercard. There were fights that were supposed to be ticketed for the Tank Davis-Lamont Roach fight that did not happen in December. Maybe some of those fights could end up on this card. I speak specifically of Brandon Figueroa in the rematch against Stephen Fulton.”

“February 1, David Morrell vs. David Benavidez to me anyway, probably the best fight you can make in the light heavyweight division that does not involve either Artur Beterbiev or Dmitry Bivol,” said Rafael regarding the stature of the fight.
