Crawford Not Fighting Spence + Weekend Recaps
Welcome to the “Fight Freaks Unite Recap” Podcast coming off a light weekend that included featherweight contender Mauricio Lara’s big KO on in the main event of the Matchroom Boxing card on DAZN on Saturday night and a “ShoBox” card on Friday night on Showtime.
We recap those cards and also look at the most recent boxing news, including the disappointing decision by Terence Crawford to pass on the Errol Spence Jr. showdown to instead face David Avanesyan.
On this episode (in order):
We review super middleweight Sena Agbeko’s mild upset of Isaiah Steen in the “ShoBox” main event as well as the two other bouts on the telecast.
We discuss Lara’s third-round knockout of Jose Sanmartin and the probability that he set himself up for a title fight, either a trilogy bout with Josh Warrington or for the fight with Leigh Wood that was called off due to Wood’s injury.

The impressive performance of 20-year-old lightweight Floyd Schofield, who looked great in a first-round knockout win on Thursday night in his first fight since signing with Golden Boy. The kid looks like somebody to keep an eye on.
The announcement that heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte will return from his April knockout loss challenging Tyson Fury for the title to face unbeaten American Jermaine Franklin on Nov. 26.
Word that heavyweight prospect Jared Anderson, who is scheduled to return Dec. 10 on the Teofimo Lopez-Jose Pedraza card, will step up his competition to face tough, experienced Jerry Forrest.
Son of a legend gets promotional deal
Top Rank’s announcement that it has signed lightweight Emiliano Vargas, the 18-year-old son of former two-time junior middleweight titleholder Fernando Vargas.
Showtime and PBC’s announcement that David Morrell will defend the WBA “regular” super middleweight title against mandatory challenger Aidos Yerbossynuly in the main event of a Nov. 5 tripleheader.
Finally, some good discussion of the super disappointing announcement that Crawford will fight Avanesyan on Dec. 10 on an obscure streaming platform rather than finalize the fight with Spence that boxing fans have long hoped for.
What a mess.
