Chris Eubank Jr. Reveals 6-Word Text That Sparked Reconciliation With His Father

Many in the boxing world are still talking about the 12-round war between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn that took place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 26. It was a brilliant fight that saw Eubank triumph by unanimous decision (116-112 x3). Eubank was taken to the hospital after the fight due to severe dehydration, and in addition to discussing that, he revealed on The Diary of a CEO podcast the text message he received from his father, Chris Eubank Sr, the night before the fight.

During the emotional podcast with Bartlett, in addition to discussing the reconciliation with his father, Eubank also discussed the severity of his dehydration: “After the fight, my face is swollen up. That’s not from the punches, that’s from severe dehydration,” said Eubank Jr.

He added: “That’s what I was suffering from most in hospital. Complete dehydration. It got to a point where I was in the hospital, and I was lying in the bed, and they had drips, IV drips to get all the liquid into your system, and my bladder was full. Like, I really needed to pee. For about 2 hours, I’d get up and go to the toilet, I’d stand over the toilet, and it would not go, and I’m dying to go. That’s how dehydrated I was.”

An emotional Chris Eubank Jr said: “I had bullets coming from my family. My father. A couple of days before the biggest fight of my life, he’s going into the media and saying I’m a disgrace. I’m already under a lot of stress, under a lot of pressure, and then I’ve got to hear this. How much worse is it going to get?”

“On the subject of my father, regardless of what he said about me and the fight, he was there when it mattered the most, and that means everything.

“I didn’t know he was going to come. He texted me the night before the fight. He said: ‘Call me when you see this,'” revealed Eubank Jr.

The Future for Chris Eubank Jr

It remains to be seen what is next for Eubank Jr, whether it’s the Benn rematch or another opponent. He makes it clear in the podcast that because of his fight purse from the Benn fight, he never has to box again. But when asked about the rematch against Benn, he said: “It’s very likely that fight will happen again at some point this year.”
