Boxing at the Olympics: Day Six Results Including Controversy in Women’s 66kg Competition

Boxing at the Olympics: Day Six Results

Session One

Wu Yu (China) defeated Zareen Nikhat (India) 5-0 in the women’s 50kg competition.

Sabina Bobokulova (Uzbekistan) lost 5-0 to Chuthamat Raksat (Thailand) in the women’s 50kg division.

Colombia’s Ingrit Lorena Valencia Victoria was victorious as she defeated Monique Suraci (Australia) in the women’s 50kg competition.

Busenaz Surmeneli (Turkey) defeated Aneta Rygielska (Poland) 4-1 in their women’s 66kg fight.

Brigitte Mbabi (Congo) lost 4-1 to Janjaem Suwannapheng (Thailand) in their women’s 66kg bout.

Imane Khelif (Algeria) vs. Angela Carini (Italy) in the women’s 66kg competition was full of controversy as the fight was abandoned in the opening round due to the Italian fighter not wanting to continue.

Session Two

Chang Yuan (China) defeated Stanimira Petrova (Bulgaria) 4-1 in the women’s 54kg quarter-final.

Wyatt Sanford (Canada) won 4-1 against Ruslan Abdullaev (Uzbekistan) in the men’s 63.5kg quarter-final.

Victor Schelstraete (Belgium) lost 5-0 to Enmanuel Reyes Pla (Spain) in the men’s 92kg quarter-final.

Nazym Kyzaibay (Kazakhstan) defeated Caroline Barbosa de Almeida (Brazil) 5-0 in the women’s 50kg competition.

Buse Naz Cakirroglu (Turkey) won 5-0 against Fatima Herrera (Mexico) in the women’s 50kg division.

Pihla Kaivo-Oja (Finland) defeated Jennifer Lozano (USA) 5-0 in the women’s 50kg competition.

In the women’s 66kg competition, Anna Luca Hamori (Hungary) won 5-0 vs. Marissa Williamson (Australia).

Chen Nien Chin (Chinese Taipei) defeated Barbara Maria dos Santos (Brazil) 5-0 in the women’s 66kg competition.

Navbakhor Khamidova (Uzbekistan) edged out Morelle McCane (USA) in a 3-2 split decision in the women’s 66kg competition.

Pang Cholmi (North Korea) defeated Widad Bertal (Morocco) 4-0 in the women’s 54kg quarter-final.

Hatice Akbas (Turkey) defeated Enkhjargal Munguntsetseg (Mongolia) 5-0 in the women’s 54kg quarter-final.

In the men’s 63.5kg quarter-final, Sofiane Oumiha (France) defeated Richard Kovacs (Hungary) much to the delight of the home crowd.

Loren Berto Alfonso Dominguez (Azerbaijan) defeated Aibek Oralbay (Kazakhstan) 3-2 in the men’s 92kg quarter-final.

Session Three

Wassila Lkhadiri (France) won a tough fight 4-1 against the promising Daina Moorhouse (Ireland) in the women’s 50kg competition.

Aira Villegas (Philippines) impressed, defeating Roumaysa Boualam (Algeria) in the women’s 50kg competition.

Oshin Derieuw (Belgium) produced a big final round to defeat Ivanusa Moreira (Cape Verde) 3-2 in the women’s 66kg division.

Yang Liu (China) was in control, winning 5-0 against Alcinda Lucas dos Santos (Mozambique) in the women’s 66kg division.

IM Aeji (South Korea) fought diligently to defeat Yeni Marcela Arias Castaneda (Colombia) 3-2 in their women’s 54kg quarter-final.

Erislandy Alvarez Borges (Cuba) impressed once again, defeating a brave Bunjong Sinsiri (Thailand) 5-0 in their men’s 63.5kg quarter-final.

Lasha Guruli (Georgia) overcame a cut to defeat Bazarbay Mukhammedsabyr (Kazakhstan) 3-2 in their men’s 63.5kg quarter-final.

Lazizbek Mullojonov (Uzbekistan) showed his class against Keno Marley Machado (Brazil), winning 5-0 in the quarter-final of the men’s 92kg division.

A brave effort from Jack Marley (Ireland) was not enough as he lost 4-1 in his men’s 92kg quarter-final against Davlat Boltaev (Tajikistan).
