Benavidez- I’d never fight on the undercard of a Youtube Star

When the announcement last week that Youtube stars KSI and Logan Paul will have their rematch to their bout as professionals in November, not everyone was thrilled.

One name you can add to that list is Super Middleweight David Benavidez.

The undefeated Benavidez is preparing for his contest, challenging Anthony Dirrell for the WBC Super Middleweight on September 28. Benavidez spoke with Xicana Boxing about the idea of being on such a card and wasn’t thrilled about it.

“I don’t want to knock anybody’s hustle, “Benavidez said to Xicana. “I heard that he (Logan Paul) sold his last pay-per-view and it had a million buys. If they can do it, they can do it.”

DAZN is the streaming service that is airing the bout that is being promoted by Matchroom Boxing. Their first fight back in August 2018 sold-out the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England and was watched by over 1 million live pay-per-view buyers on YouTube, with the match ending in a majority draw with KSI edging the battle on one card with two judges unable to split them.

This time around Paul and KSI are doing it in as pros in Los Angeles at the Staples Center. Tickets will go on sale for the event on the same day as the initial press conference to promote the fight on Saturday, September 14th.

The interview asked a what-if question for Benavidez if he had to be on the undercard of the event.

I would never fight on the undercard of a Youtube star,” Benavidez stated to Xicana.” You know that’s just me, but thank God I’m not on DAZN.”

The general consensus is that this fight is going to bring in different viewers and those who wouldn’t normally check out boxing into the sport. I feel it’s part that and more along the lines of getting new subscriptions to the DAZN service during a big fight window.

This fight is landing on November 9th with arguably the biggest heavyweight match to end 2019 between Andy Ruiz and Anthony Joshua taking place on December 7th. That falls in the 30-day monthly billing window for those who decide that they want to renew shortly after or not with the service.

We’ll see what other fighters are slated to be on the card as early reports have speculated Billy Joe Saunders and Devin Haney to be added to this bill as both fighters are under the Matchroom Boxing banner.

Go ahead and rule out Benavidez on this one, however.
