Fillip Hrgovic vs Dave Allen: Teddy Atlas breaks it down

On May 16, at the Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster, Dave Allen faces one of the toughest challenges of his career, as he takes on Filip Hrgovic. The entire card will be promoted by Queensberry Promotions, live on DAZN. The main event will be in the heavyweight division.

In fight week for this heavyweight showdown, renowned boxing trainer and commentator Teddy Atlas has broken the fight down, revealing his prediction.

Filip Hrgovic set to face Dave Allen on May 16

Hrgovic (19-1, 14 KOs) enjoyed an impressive amateur career before turning professional. Since then, Hrgovic has looked impressive at times, scoring wins over Zhilei Zhang and, in more recent fights, Joe Joyce and David Adeleye. The Croatian enjoyed early success against Daniel Dubois before being stopped.

During his fights, he looks dominant in spells, but does have moments where he switches off, as seen against Adeleye. That is what Allen will be waiting for.

Allen (25-8-2, 20 KOs) is loved by many for his straight talking and his willingness to fight the best. He has shared the ring with high-level boxers such as Dillian Whyte and Luis Ortiz. Since joining Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis, it feels like The White Rhino is reborn, and his win in the rematch of Johnny Fisher was a career-best win, but Hrgovic is on another level.

Hrgovic vs Allen: Teddy Atlas predicts May 16

Via his The Ropes community, Atlas discussed the strengths of Allen:

“He is very game and tough, but his style makes him made to order for the longer jab and straight rights of Hrgovic on the outside. His chin is very good, but if Hrgovic can catch him (with) a combination of punches, he can hurt him. His best chance is to hurt Hrgovic on the inside by catching him standing tall with a left hook or looping right hand.”

Looking at Hrgovic’s attributes, Atlas wrote:

“He is taller, longer and technically better (than Allen), so he should get ahead on the scorecards and have chances to hurt Allen with right hands and body shots, but needs to dominate on the outside and not get caught (by) big shots in close standing tall and not get worn out late in the fight.

“I believe Allen gets outworked and either loses by decision or gets stopped late,” added Atlas.
