‘One Hundred Percent I’m Ready” – Daniel Dubois Says Of Usyk Challenge

Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois are set to do battle on August 26 at the Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw, Poland. The two heavyweights will collide with Usyks IBF, WBA and WBO world heavyweight titles going to the winner.

Usyk will return to the ring after almost a year out since he retained his three titles in the Anthony Joshua rematch on August 20, 2022. The Ukrainian legend has endured a frustrating start to 2023, with negotiations for an undisputed clash against Tyson Fury, failing to materialise. Fury will now fight Francis Ngannou.

Dubois enters the contest with an 18-1 professional record, with four wins in a row since losing to Joe Joyce in 2020.

At today’s press conference in London, here is what the fighters had to say.

Oleksandr Usyk

Usyk was relaxed and respectful throughout as we’ve come to expect from the Ukrainian heavyweight

“I think really highly of my opponent. He’s a nice man, a nice guy, a nice athlete. He came to the position of mandatory, so he deserves it, but let’s stop talking; let’s see each other on 26 August.”

Usyk was asked if he had a message for Dubois, and he said full of confidence, “I am the message myself,” before launching into a rap after their face-off.

Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas was full of praise for Dubois, mentioning his speed and power, but he also added. “First of all, to knock someone out, you need to touch them. Sometimes, it’s not easy for the big cat to catch the mouse.”

Daniel Dubois

“I’m in a training camp, I’m running and everything is going well. I’m grateful for this opportunity and I’m ready to take it with both hands.”

“This has been a long time coming and I’m ready to take it on. Usyk has been a great champion but everything with a beginning has an end and I’m ready.”

“One hundred per cent I’m ready, we’re ready to rumble. This is it, bring them titles back home, bring them belts. They’re coming with me, it’s my time.”

“Usyk’s been a great champion, [but] everything with a beginning has to end. I’ve got to outmanoeuvre him and everything. I’m younger, I’m stronger, I’ve got to unleash hell on this guy.”

Dubois was full of confidence throughout the London presser and added. “I’m gonna be on him, ready to take them belts away.”

Frank Warren

Dubois’s promoter Frank Warren was in no doubt that his man can shock the world and rip Usyk’s three titles from him.

“He’s capable, he can punch, he can jab, he’s faster than people think. I genuinely believe that my man will win. This is gonna be a great fight, while it lasts.”
