Anthony Joshua Could Be ‘Ordered’ to Face ‘The Most Avoided Heavyweight in the World’
Anthony Joshua enjoyed an impressive end to 2023, dominating Otto Wallin and is now set to fight Francis Ngannou in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with more details to be revealed at the opening press conference in London on January 15. Possibility of Joshua vs. Martin Bakole
Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk is set to take place on February 17 in an undisputed world title fight, but attention has already turned to what happens next. Shalom has spoken to Sky Sports about the WBA situation and how his fighter, WBA No 1 ranked Bakole, fits into this: “The WBA may order a final eliminator and we are waiting on direction from them.”
He continued: “The aim for Martin is to fight early in the year and continue his impressive run. I’m looking forward to seeing him fully fit, when he will look even more devastating.”

He added: “Of course Anthony Joshua is No 2 [in the WBA rankings] and so it would make sense that the fight would be ordered – and Martin would be ready.”
Shalom also spoke about how Bakole fits into the division: “Martin remains the most avoided heavyweight in the world and his recent performances have only added to that.”
Bakole Speaks on Sparring Sessions
Joshua and the Congolese fighter are no strangers to each other, having sparred numerous rounds over the years. Bakole appears to have taken confidence from these sessions, and last year said: “I learned how to stop him.” He continued: “He doesn’t know how to fight on the inside. So give him pressure on the inside until he gives up.“
2024 is setting itself up to be a memorable one for heavyweight boxing, and the landscape of the division should become clearer after the Usyk vs. Fury fight.
