Davis- ‘I feel like no one is above me’
With Gervonta Davis 12th round technical knockout victory over Yuriorkis Gamboa Saturday night in his homecoming bout in Atlanta, the undefeated Davis earned himself the WBA “regular” version of the 135-pound title.
Davis, when asked at the post-fight conference about the prospects of facing Vasiliy Lomachenko, Davis wanted to remind everyone that now at lightweight, he is the draw and star of the division.
“I mean you know, saying moving close to that fight is like he (Lomachenko) above me,” Davis speaking at the post-fight press conference. I feel like no one is above me. I’m the cash cow. I believe so at 135 and 130. I’m setting off ratings. I’m putting butts in the seats. I don’t think he’s doing that.”
Davis (23-0,22 KOs) holding a version of the WBA title gets him a holding position behind the “Super” title held currently by Loamachenko. Lomachenko is now lined up to take on new IBF titleholder Teofemo Lopez scheduled for April and, in all likelihood, the winner of that bout not facing Davis in the near future.
Davis stated when asked who’s next up in the ring, “I don’t know. I’m a fighter. I’m willing to fight anybody.”
One idea that I’d like to see if possible is Devin Haney. Haney recently had shoulder surgery and will be sidelined until mid-2020 as he recovers. The recently vacated WBC champ Haney tweeted out his name as a candidate to challenge Davis last night.

We’ll see what is next for Davis in 2020, but it has been mentioned for a while that the process of Davis taking on Leo Santa Cruz has been floating around. The story of Davis in 2019 is that he has drawn over 30 thousand boxing fans into three different venues and has delivered three knockout wins. Whenever or not you like the opposition in the ring on the other side of him, the fact that Davis is a draw in boxing is an understatement by me even typing it.
