Daniel Dubois (23-3, 22 KOs) will soon put his WBO heavyweight world title on the line in a rematch against Fabio Wardley (20-1-1, 19 KOs).

Their bout headlines a Queensberry Promotions card at the O2 Arena in London, England. Fight fans around the world can catch the action live as a pay-per-view (PPV) with DAZN.

Both men spoke at a press conference ahead of their Oct. 17 contest. Below is some of what they had to say.

Daniel Dubois vs. Fabio Wardley 2 press conference quotes

Daniel Dubois

“Feeling stronger [going into this fight],” said Dubois. “Feeling grounded and ready to go out there and do my job. Another one. Get through this and do bigger and better things.”

“I’m ready to go out there and do my job. I take every fight serious. Every challenge 100 per cent. So I’m just zoned in to go out there and perform.”

Fabio Wardley

“Surprisingly, I feel great,” said Wardley. “It’s one of those things, especially when you suffer a loss, it’s never part of the plan. It’s never what you want, but I think the thought of it is actually worse than the reality. Especially with myself and my resume and the way I go about things of wanting to put myself in the biggest fights out there, put myself in the biggest test…I want to be in there with the best guys so that does put you in a situation for jeopardy, for things to go wrong and yeah, it did [go wrong in the first Dubois fight], but I can right those wrongs.”

“Look, we as a team know where I went wrong. Me, especially. It didn’t take a lot for me to look at that fight and go ‘right, these are the areas I messed up.’ Because there was some great areas in there where I had a huge amount of success, but also some areas I didn’t do too well on and that is part of my growth…I’m still doing a bit of learning and I slipped up on the night. I did some things wrong, but okay, no problem. I can go back to the drawing board, be honest with myself, be plain, and go ‘right, these are the things we need to adjust going forward’ make those changes.”

Fight prediction

From Big Fight Weekend’s Ricky Carroll: The first fight between these two was a war, with Wardley scoring two early knockdowns before Dubois regained his composure and worked brilliantly off his jab. He landed bomb after bomb, and Wardley kept coming forward until the referee had seen enough and waved off the bout in the eleventh round, while Dubois was up 96-92 on all three scorecards.

The Ipswich fighter has a granite chin and carries fight-ending power. In the rematch, he needs to be smarter with his work and not load up with every shot. Dubois has shown that despite critics, he has plenty of heart. His jab is a weapon that allows him to control fights.

Looking ahead to the rematch, we predict a cagey opening few rounds before Dubois establishes his jab and forces a late stoppage against Wardley or wins by decision. However, Wardley has the power to change the fight with one punch, and he’s proven this before.
