Devin Haney reacts to Ryan Garcia’s explosive win over Conor Benn

On September 12 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn headlined a Ring fight card, co-promoted by Zuffa Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions for the American’s WBC welterweight title. Whether watching on DAZN pay-per-view or Paramount+, fans saw Garcia deliver a blistering showing, defeating Benn by second-round TKO.

Following the September 12 main event, Devin Haney spoke to Fight Hub TV, giving his honest reaction to Garcia’s successful title defence.

Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn ends in explosive second round stoppage

Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn was a fight that got many in the sport excited, and the bout was as explosive as many of us hoped. The American ultimately prevailed, with a dominating second-round TKO of Benn at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Garcia (26-2, 21 KOs) looked sharp early, quickly finding a home for his left hook and knocking Benn backwards in the opening round. Benn (25-2, 14 KOs) appeared untroubled and was content to meet Garcia in the pocket and trade punches, leading some of his own. A left to the body seemingly hurt the American, who turned away.

Benn looked to start the second round on the front foot, but as he looked to close the gap, he walked onto a beautifully timed right hand that dropped “The Destroyer.” The Brit took the eight-count and looked to fight on, but the writing looked to be on the wall. Garcia wasted no time and swarmed his opponent with a vicious barrage of punches, leading referee Thomas Taylor to wave the fight off in round two.

Leaving the T-Mobile Arena after Garcia’s dominating performance, WBO welterweight champion Haney was asked what he thought of the fight:

“Ryan did what we all thought he was gonna do. He looked good. He looked sharp. He was a little jittery in the beginning, but sharp. I wasn’t surprised. Ryan is explosive, naturally, and Conor didn’t have that much explosiveness,”said Haney.

“I think he (Benn) was just trying to be too aggressive, and he’s not defensively sound enough, and once he was hurt, he didn’t really know what to do after that,” added Haney.
