All results from the Andy Ruiz vs Damian Knyba main fight card

Alan Chaves vs Eridson Garcia

Next up was big-punching lightweight Alan Chaves (22-1, 19 KOs) against Eridson Garcia (24-2, 14 KOs). It was a good opening round for Garcia, who enjoyed success, controlling the distance and punching from range.

Garcia continued to start well, landing a left-right combination which knocked Chaves down. Garcia was first to the punch for the remainder of the round, putting together some eye-catching combinations. What a start from the Dominican-born fighter.

The 11-inch reach advantage for Garcia appeared to be the differentiator in the first three rounds, helping him control the distance with relative ease, as he was almost landing on Chaves at will. A huge combination from Garcia at the end of round four had the Argentine fighter struggling to remain on his feet. Two heavy knockdowns came in the fifth round as Garcia dominated the heavy pre-fight favourite, Chaves. Somehow the Argentine made it to the end of the round and came out for the sixth, despite the chaos in his corner.

At the beginning of round six, Chaves didn’t appear to land a punch as Garcia slipped, but inexplicably the referee ruled it a knockdown. A big right hand in the eighth round buckled the legs of Chaves, who to this point had nothing in his arsenal to trouble his Dominican opponent. During the ninth round, Chaves walked into a big right hand from his opponent, who scored his fourth knockdown of the contest.

The Dominican southpaw continued to dominate during the final round of the fight, picking his punches and moving effectively to avoid any counters from Chaves. Garcia dominated from the start to the finish, with the judges’ scorecards reading 99-87, 99-88, and 98-88, all in favour of Garcia, the new IBF international and WBO Latino lightweight champion.

Zaquin Moses vs Angel Antonio Contreras

The first fight on the Andy Ruiz vs Damian Knyba main fight card saw Zaquin Moses (8-0, 4 KOs) face Angel Antonio Contreras (18-11-2, 12 KOs) in the super featherweight division.

Moses started brightly, using his jab to control the distance and work off it. A huge left hand from Moses landed low, and both clashed heads, with Contreras coming off the worse. Moses let his hands go in the second round, dictating the tempo, landing eye-catching flurries. Moses landed a peach of a left hand in the third round, backing the Mexican up.

The body work from the Newark fighter began to pay dividends as the rounds progressed, and at the end of round five, referee Harvey Dock had seen enough and waved the fight off, awarding Zaquin Moses the victory in front of his home town.
