Former world champion raises major doubts over Errol Spence Jr ahead of Tim Tszyu fight

Ahead of this 158 pound catchweight bout, former two-weight world champion Paulie Malignaggi spoke to Fight Hub TV, where he cast doubt on what Spence has left, especially after not having a tune-up fight.

Tim Tszyu vs Errol Spence Jr set for catchweight showdown

Tszyu (27-3, 18 KOs) was flying high before a bloody loss to late-replacement Sebastian Fundora in 2024. Since then, it’s been a rocky road for the Australian, losing again to Fundora and suffering a brutal loss against Bakhram Murtazaliev. Tszyu did win last time out against Denis Nurja, but the defeats were heavy and brutal at times. After the Nurja win, Tszyu decided to change his team and appoint Jeff Fenech as his lead trainer.

Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) dazzled at the top of the sport for a number of years, recording impressive wins against Shawn Porter and Kell Brook among others. It remains to be seen what the American has left after three years out of the ring since his one-sided loss against Terence Crawford.

Tim Tszyu vs Errol Spence Jr: Paulie Malignaggi issues no tune up warning

When speaking to Fight Hub TV about Tim Tszyu vs Errol Spence Jr, former two-weight world champion Paulie Malignaggi said:

“I don’t understand how there’s no tune-up for this guy (Errol Spence Jr) going into this fight. But he decided that way, so we’ll see. I think coming off three years off and a string of negativity with that car accident and the retina surgery. 

“And then going into the (Terence) Crawford fight where it’s supposed to be competitive, and he basically just one-sidedly puts a beating on him. There are question marks. People that are picking Errol Spence are basing it on the Errol Spence they saw when he was very good. That’s a long time ago; can Errol summon that again, especially coming off the negative string? I don’t know, bro.”
