Xander Zayas vs Jaron Ennis set for Brooklyn dust up

Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs) comes into the fight as the betting favourite, despite being the challenger. He will be aiming to become a two-weight world champion by defeating Zayas. Boots became the unified welterweight champion by defeating Eimantas Stanionis to add the WBA strap to his IBF crown. After that, the decision was made to move up to the 154 division, where in his first fight at the weight, he beat Uisma Lima in a round to win the interim WBA title.

Zayas (23-0, 13 KOs), under the tutelage of Top Rank, became the WBO super welterweight champion by defeating Jorge Garcia Perez. The Puerto Rican fighter then beat Abass Baraou to become the unified WBO/WBA champion.

Atlas breaks down Zayas vs Ennis

Discussing Xander Zayas vs Jaron Ennis, Atlas said:

“Ennis is a sharpshooter. He’s physical. He’s the puncher here. Not Zayas, not the bigger guy. He’s an accurate puncher, he’s a guy that can go to the body, can go to the head. He’ll fight inside, outside, he’ll box if he has to, he’ll set traps if he has to. Walk forward, engage if he has to. He doesn’t waste much and places shots in the right spots.

“On the other hand, the 23-year-old Zayas is a guy with good hand speed, but legs. It’s gonna be the legs of Zayas, and the jab. Both guys are gonna need their jabs for different reasons. Zayas to control the outside. I think he’s going to want to live on the outside and control the spots. Go in and out, and get angles. Try to keep the sharpshooter off balance. That would be my plan.”
