Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois: Teddy Atlas breaks it down

Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois: Teddy Atlas breaks it down

On May 9, at the Co-op Live in Manchester, live on DAZN, Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois headlines a Queensberry Promotions fight card. Wardley’s WBO world heavyweight title will be up for grabs in an event aptly dubbed “Don’t Blink.”

In the build-up to this fascinating heavyweight clash, renowned boxing trainer and commentator Teddy Atlas appeared on his own The Fight with Teddy Atlas podcast, where he previewed the May 9 showdown.

Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois set for May 9 firefight

Wardley (20-0-1, 19 KOs) vs Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs) feels like a whoever-lands-first-wins type fight. Both have shown throughout their careers that they have fight-ending power. Wardley has recorded memorable wins against Joseph Parker and Justis Huni.

Dubois also punches like a mule and has recorded highly impressive victories against Anthony Joshua, Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic. I don’t think a fight has ever justified its name more than “Don’t Blink” does for this heavyweight shootout.

Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois: Teddy Atlas has his say

Looking ahead to Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois on May 9, Atlas said:

“Let me get right to it. Interesting fight. The bookmakers have got it right. It’s even money; they got it right. It might come down to who lands first. Both guys are big punchers. And the punch they deliver with the most frequency and knockout power is the right hand. And they both get hit with right hands.

“Both of them are susceptible to the other guy’s strength. It’s always important where the guy is mentally. 75% of this is mental. That edge has to go right now to Wardley, who just won the heavyweight title. He’s undefeated, and Dubois is coming off a knockout loss to (Oleksandr) Usyk. So, mentally, you gotta have the edge for Wardley. But Dubois has been here before. Dubois is much more experienced.

“I am gambling that somebody gets hurt early, before 8.5 rounds, and does not make it past 8,5 rounds,” added Atlas.
