Alycia Baumgardner vs. Bo Mi Re Shin press conference quotes and fight prediction

Alycia Baumgardner (17-1, 7 KOs, 1 NC) will soon defend her WBA, WBO, and IBF super featherweight world titles against Bo Mi Re Shin (19-3-3, 10 KOs).

Their bout headlines a Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) card at the Infosys Theater at Madison Square Garden. Fight fans in the United States can catch the action live on ESPN. Those in the United Kingdom and Ireland will be able to do so with Sky Sports. Unlike the majority of boxing bouts featuring women, Baumgardner-Shin will be contested over 10 three-minute rounds.

Both women spoke at a press conference ahead of their April 17 clash. Below is some of what they had to say.

Alycia Baumgardner vs. Bo Mi Re Shin press conference quotes

Alycia Baumgardner

“I am just in my element,” said Baumgardner. “I’m coming from the solar system and baby, I’m just ready to put on a show.”

“One thing about Bo, she’s coming to fight. She is a warrior, just as I know she is, but I’m hungrier. I’m meaner and I’m just sharper. This last camp has been so good for me mentally. Being locked in a different space. Now being the main event and shooting off of ESPN. This is the perfect moment to showcase who Alycia Baumgardner is.”

Bo Mi Re Shin

“I have a great respect for Baumgardner because she has a great style of boxing,” said Shin through an interpreter. “She’s a strong fighter, but I believe I have more perseverance and I will show you on Friday.”

“I have always questioned why should women’s boxing be two minutes, 10 rounds, not three minutes, 10 rounds, just like men. And I have always prepared myself to be ready for three minutes, 10 rounds. So no problem.”

Fight prediction

From Big Fight Weekend’s Ricky Carroll: Shin has shown she has the capabilities to trouble the best fighters, but Baumgardner is elite in women’s boxing. She showed her excellent work rate against Dubois, but Baumgardner is a brilliant technician. She uses her jab effectively and picks her punches impressively while also being known for her high ring IQ. We are backing Baumgardner to win by a wide, unanimous decision.
