Roy Jones Jr breaks down Teofimo Lopez vs Shakur Stevenson
On Saturday, January 31, 2026, Teofimo Lopez vs Shakur Stevenson will headline the “The Ring 6” fight card at Madison Square Garden, New York City.
These two talented fighters will be for Lopez’s WBO super lightweight title. WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson is moving up in weight to face his fellow American.
Ahead of this intriguing clash, Roy Jones Jr has spoken to Fight Hub TV, breaking down Lopez vs Stevenson.
Teofimo Lopez vs Shakur Stevenson set for January 31
Lopez (22-1, 13 KOs) was last seen in action defeating Arnold Barboza Jr by unanimous decision, with the judges’ scorecards reading 116-112, 116-112, and 118-110. Lopez was the bright spot of an otherwise disappointing card at Times Square.
Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) last fought on the Ring III fight card at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York City, producing a career-best performance to defeat William Zepeda by unanimous decision, with scorecards of 118-100 x2 and 119-109.
Roy Jones Jr weighs in on MSG showdown
When asked to break down Teofimo Lopez vs Shakur Stevenson, Jones Jr said: “Stylistically, Teo gotta go in and go for broke. He gotta go gamble. He gotta take something, get something. And it’s the only way to win.
“If he stays outside and boxes, Shakur gonna pick him apart. Shakur’s a polished boxer with some of the best feet in the game right now, and he’s a defensive-minded fighter, which is very smart. It’s hard to hit him. He makes you gamble to hit him, and he’s going to be a tough one to deal with. But if Teofimo is willing to gamble to beat him, then Teofimo can definitely make it a really good fight.”
Lopez-Stevenson is an intriguing fight, and it’s difficult to disagree with how Jones breaks the fight down.
