Eddie Hearn backs Dave Allen and teases big comeback plans
On Saturday, October 11, at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield, Dave Allen (24-8-2, 19 KOs) faced Arslanbek Makhmudov (21-2, 19 KOs) in the main event of a Matchroom Boxing card, live on DAZN.
The bookies had it fairly even before the first bell, but it was the Russian who ultimately stuck to a disciplined game plan, winning by unanimous decision (115-111, 116-110 and 117-109).
Despite defeat for Allen, Eddie Hearn spoke to The Stomping Ground, teasing a comeback fight for Allen and hinting at big plans for the future.
Dave Allen falls short against Makhmudov
Makhmudov quickly found his rhythm, punching straight, using his reach advantage to control the distance effectively. Allen did land a left hook in the opening round, which seemed to shock the Russian.
The accuracy of Makhmudov ensured that he continued to keep Allen at a distance, helping him land the right hand on several notable occasions.
“The White Rhino” did have success in the fifth, landing two big uppercuts, which seemed to have a notable effect on the Russian fighter.
The Doncaster fighter looked at his best when he got in close and landed the left hook to the body, but those opportunities were too few. Makhmudov kept to his game plan and fought long until the final bell, and despite Allen’s bravery, it was a deserved win for the Russian, who now appears set for bigger opportunities.
Hearn teases comeback and big fights for Dave Allen
The burning question for many remains: What’s next for Dave Allen?
Despite the loss for Allen, Hearn appeared optimistic for Allen’s boxing future when speaking to The Stomping Ground: “Dave Allen will come again,” said Allen’s promoter.
“In his contract he has a comeback fight, but I really want to sit down with him because I think he’s one of the biggest names in British boxing. If he can keep improving, he can come again in big fights.
“I’ve already had two phone calls tonight for big fights for Dave Allen. They’re looking at that crowd and going ‘who is this guy?’ At this time, I’m sad but I’m also excited for the future of Dave Allen,” said Hearn.
