Title Fights From Around the World: Robinson and Bormann Shine

Today, boxing world title fights take place around the globe and are more accessible to watch than ever before. Sometimes, championship bouts do not receive as much attention and go underreported. Big Fight Weekend commits to writing about boxing news, previews and recaps. As such, the site now has a recurring segment on championship bouts – from around the world from the past week.

The focus of these pieces will be on clashes ranging from atomweight to heavyweight that had the WBA, WBC, IBF, and/or WBO titles on the line. This week’s edition of “Title Fights From Around the World” consists of two recaps. In Germany, a minimumweight champion retained her title. Over in Australia, the middleweight division got a unified champion.

Title Fights From Around the World: Desley Robinson and Sarah Bormann Triumph

Sarah Bormann vs. Isabel Rivero Fight Recap

Sarah Bormann (20-1, 7 KOs) remains a minimumweight champion following a split decision victory over Isabel Rivero (10-3-1, 1 KO).

While one judge had the fight 96-93 for Rivero, the other two saw it 99-92 and 97-93 for Bormann. With the win, she remains the WBO minimumweight world champion. Bormann won the title in December last year against Jennifer Meza.

Bormann-Rivero took place on an April 26 PrimeTime Promotion card at the Glaspalast Sindelfingen in Germany. Boxing fans around the world could catch the action live on DAZN.

Rivero proved to be a very mobile opponent. However, her output was low throughout the contest. It allowed Bormann to rack up the rounds by simply being the more active of the two. Although one judge had Rivero winning, it is difficult to see how given the Spaniard’s lack of activity. In the end that scorecard proved to be the only one in her favour as Bormann would go on to win the fight.

Desley Robinson vs. Chloe Chaos Fight Recap

Note: This fight took place on April 11, but Big Fight Weekend did not report on it at the time. As a result, it is part of this edition of “Title Fights From Around the World.”

Desley Robinson (10-3, 3 KOs) is now a unified middleweight champion after winning a unanimous decision over Chloe Chaos (6-2-1, 3 KOs).

Scores were 98-92 (x2) and 97-93. With the victory, Robinson is the IBF and WBO middleweight world champion. She won the IBF belt in December last year against Kaye Scott. The vacant WBO title was put on the line for this fight after previous titleholder Claressa Shields chose to move up in weight.

Robinson-Chaos headlined an April 11 SLB Fight Night card at The Melbourne Pavilion in Kensington, Australia (BoxRec have written Flemington instead of the correct location). Boxing fans around the world could catch the action live as a pay-per-view (PPV) on STREEMS.

The absence of video and post-fight articles makes it difficult to recap what happened in this bout. Based on the scorecards, it appears that Robinson had very few issues dealing with her opponent. In the end, she wound up winning a comfortable unanimous decision.
