Shakur Stevenson Makes Bold Move Ahead of July 12 Fight
As reported by The Ring Magazine their third event will take place on July 12 in New York City with a venue to be confirmed, with Dan Rafael further revealing via his X account that Hamzah Sheeraz vs Edgar Berlanga will headline. Shakur Stevenson vs Edgar Berlanga will also be on the card and Rafael revealed in another tweet that Shakur has made a bold change ahead of his fight.
Shakur Stevenson Parts Ways With Matchroom Before July 12
Lou DiBella Rumoured to Promote Shakur Stevenson
On the July 12 card in New York, Sheeraz will make his super middleweight debut in a fascinating WBC title eliminator against Edgar Berlanga.
WBC lightweight champion Stevenson will face interim titleholder and mandatory challenger Zepeda. The WBC super lightweight titlist Alberto Puello will face former IBF titleholder Subriel Matias, in what appears an intriguing clash of styles.
David Morrell will also return to action and face unbeaten contender Imam Khataev.
Ahead of this card, Shakur is reported to have opted out of the second fight of his Matchroom deal. Rafael further states on his X post that Shakur’s manager James Prince has hired Lou DiBella as his promoter for the event to handle things on their behalf.
At the time of writing, there has been no public confirmation from any party involved in this deal, but this is a fascinating move by Stevenson, who appeared to distance himself from Riyadh Season before declaring in a further post it was a misunderstanding. Dan Rafael addressed the situation on the latest Big Fight Weekend/Fight Freaks Unite podcast, hinting at problems between Eddie Hearn and Turki Alalshikh as opposed to Stevenson and Hearn.
New York City
It remains to be seen where the card will take place in NYC – but it looks set to be a busy boxing weekend in New York City. Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will meet in their trilogy fight at Madison Square Garden in the main event of their historic all-female card on Netflix.
