Respected Boxing Figure Talks Rumoured Usyk vs Dubois Rematch

Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) confirmed his dominance in the heavyweight division when he defeated Tyson Fury for the second time on December 21. Since then, many have speculated about what will be next for the unified heavyweight champion. Recently rumours surfaced that Usyk vs Dubois 2 for undisputed glory is being finalised, with no official confirmation at the time of writing. Respected boxing manager Sam Jones recently spoke to Boxing Social to share his opinion on the motivation for Usyk to face Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) for the second time.

Usyk vs Dubois 2: Jones Reflects on Past Mistakes

When speaking to Boxing Social, Jones discussed the rumoured Usyk vs Dubois rematch, and spoke about the motivation for Usyk: “He must just love boxing Usyk because he’s made so much money – generational wealth. He’s beaten everybody, some of them twice. Look at AJ and Fury, two of our best. Beat them both, twice.

“What more’s he doing it for? He beat Dubois, stopped him last time. I know there was a little bit of controversy in that fight. Fair play to him, because Usyk can’t really get any better and Daniel Dubois has got better.”

Jones added: “It’s a great fight but I will never ever bet against Usyk for as long as I live and for as long he’s boxing because I’ve done it countless times now and each time he’s made me look a bit silly so I will never bet against Usyk.”

Do We Need a Rematch?

Whether we need a rematch is a question that will split opinions in the sport. Many felt Dubois legitimately knocked Usyk down in the fifth round of their 2023 clash. The Ukrainian ultimately stopped Dubois in round nine.

There is no doubt “Dynamite” has improved drastically since that fight and has more belief than ever before. Usyk has only fought twice since that 2023 fight, but both were brilliant performances against Fury. Even with the improvements Dubois has made, the movement and ring IQ of the Ukrainian should prove the deciding factors.

If and when this fight is made, the boxing world will surely tune in to see two heavyweights square off for undisputed glory.
