Matchroom Signs Undefeated Heavyweight – Next Fight Confirmed
Matchroom Boxing continues to sign talented fighters worldwide, including Omari Jones and Pat Brown, who have joined from the amateur ranks with big reputations. The promotional giant has now announced a co-promotional deal with undefeated 2016 Cuban Olympian Lenier Pero (11-0, 8 KOs) and Boxlab Promotions.
Matchroom Sign Undefeated Cuban Lenier Pero
Lenier Pero Matchroom Debut Confirmed
Pero, the talented Cuban heavyweight, joins Matchroom with an undefeated record and an eagerness to progress towards world title opportunities. The Cuban southpaw has not fought since last March – when he blew away Donnie Palmer in one round.
He will return to action, making his Matchroom debut on April 18 against Detrailous Webster (94, 5 KOs) Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida. His number 4 ranking with the WBA suggests that big fights should be just around the corner for this talented southpaw.
Lenier Pero Style
Pero will attract plenty of fans fighting on the DAZN platform. He’s heavy-handed and accurate with his shot selection. The Cuban is also slick defensively, making him a nightmare for opponents.
He controls the distance effectively in his fights, utilizing mid to long-range punches. When fighting up close, his bodywork stands out, whipping in shots like he did against Victor Vykhryst.
Eddie Hearn and Lenier Pero React
Pero has reacted to joining Matchroom: “I’m excited to take this next step in my career with Matchroom and Boxlab Promotions as my co-promoters,” Pero said.
“Together, we’ll bring my journey to the world stage, and I’m ready to show everyone why I’m an undefeated force in the heavyweight division. The time is now to take my career to the next level.”
Pero mixed at a high level in the amateurs, facing respected heavyweights such as Frank Sanchez and Filip Hrgovic. Hearn also reacted to the news of the signing: “The heavyweight division is always evolving, Lenier has the tools to become a real contender. We’re excited to be working with Amaury and the Boxlab team on Lenier’s progression, and we’ll be looking for him to make a big impression on the division this year.”
