Emanuel Navarrete destroys Francisco De Vaca to retain
In what seems to be a mismatch from the word go, the main event saw Emanuel Navarrete retain his WBO 122 pound title by dismantling Francisco De Vaca in the three rounds in front of a rabid crowd at the Bank of California Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
Navarrete (28-1, 24 KOs) in the first round not only took what De Vaca (20-1, 6 KOs) threw at him but when he returned fire, you can visually see the difference in power was going to make this bout a short affair. The broadcast handled by ESPN pointed it out as well as in the first round, De Vaca landed 2 and three punch combinations which looked to relatively not phase Navarrete at all.
The second round is when Navarrete turned on the gas and began landing shots which led to him knocking De Vaca down after landing two nice uppercuts to De Vaca. He was able to beat the standing eight count and proceded to avoid any additional danger. De Vaca, was showing the effects with blood coming from his nose as he headed to his corner to end the round as a result of the onslaught.

Once the third round came, Navarrete was just too much for De Vaca landing shots with little to no return back from De Vaca. At one point in the middle of the round, ESPN analyst Tim Bradley was calling for De Vaca’s trainer Manny Robles to throw in the towel to save his fighter. He didn’t, but it wouldn’t matter cause at 1:54 of round three is when referee Raul Caiz had seen enough of this one and officially waived this one over.
“I want to thank my supporters, and second of all, I want to continue the tradition of Mexican boxing in Los Angeles. `I want to fill arenas and follow in the footsteps of Mexican legends,” Navarrete said post-fight. “I’m talking to {Top Rank} about fighting September 14 on the Tyson Fury card in Las Vegas. I want to thank Bob Arum and Zanfer Promotions for the opportunity.”
Said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum afterward: “He’s Mexican. He’s proud to be Mexican. September 14 is Mexican Independence Day Weekend, and the best fighter in Mexico will be there defending his title.”
We’ll see what they have in store for Navarrete next as he’ll be in action in less than a month on the Tyson Fury-Otto Wallin card.
