Stephen Fulton Jr. Confident Ahead of Comeback Fight Against Carlos Castro: ‘I’m Ready to Show a Different Side

On September 14, Canelo Álvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) returns to action against  Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs), with the Mexican fighter defending his WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight titles. on the undercard former unified super bantamweight champion Stephen Fulton Jr. makes his ring return against Carlos Castro at featherweight. Following a recent media workout, Fulton spoke about redemption and being comfortable at his new weight.

Stephen Fulton Jr. Feeling Confident at New Weight

The American fighter was last seen in the ring 14 months ago when he took on the fearsome Japanese fighter Naoya Inoue. The power from “Monster” seemed to affect Fulton throughout the fight, who was mostly on the back foot. The end came in round eight, with a left hook dropping the American. Despite beating the count, Inoue smelt blood and unleashed a vicious barrage of punches which forced the referee to step in and wave the fight off.

Following the brutal defeat to Inoue and the subsequent 14 months out of the ring, Fulton is ready to return, and spoke about redemption: “I definitely want to redeem myself after the loss. That’s why I’m training hard to be at my best in this fight.”

He continued: “It’s gonna be really good to get back in the ring. I’m ready to show everyone a different Stephen Fulton Jr. on September 14.”

Discussing the move to featherweight, the American said: “I’m gonna be a little more comfortable at the new weight. I’m ready for whatever comes my way. It’s important for me to get back in this fight and go from there.”

Facing Carlos Castro

Looking ahead to his opponent on September 14, he said: From what I’ve seen, Castro likes to box. He likes to use his length against fighters, but I think I have him beat there.”

He added:I don’t feel any pressure and I’m not worried about the layoff. I’m just focused on Carlos Castro.”
