Joyce defeated Kash Ali last time out, his first fight back after suffering two damaging losses to Zhilei Zhang. Chisora won his last fight, a laboured unanimous decision victory against Gerald Washington on August 12, 2023.

The main event at the 02 Arena is a must-win for Joyce, with Chisora revealing in the final press conference that: “It’s going to be very emotional,” said Chisora. “This is a farewell dance party for me at the O2 Arena.”

Ahead of this heavyweight bout, Carl Froch was asked his views on the fight, and he didn’t hold back: “I don’t think Joe Joyce should be fighting anymore. I said that before he got knocked out by Zhang. Derek Chisora has been a gatekeeper for years. He’s made a career out of it but I can think of a better way to make money than getting your brains punched in.”

He continued: “I remember years ago David Haye ironed him out, left hook, right hook. After chinning him at the press conference, he ironed him out in the ring. All these years later and he’s still getting battered.”

“I mean Tyson Fury f**king mauled him twice. In the rematch Fury just used him as a heavy bag, punching his brains in. It’s not good. It’s not a fight I want to see. I think it’s bad for boxing.”
