Three Ways Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez Can Defeat Juan Francisco Estrada

Jesse Bam Rodriguez (19-0, 12 KOs) and Juan Francisco Estrada (44-3, 28 KOs) will face off on June 29 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, live on DAZN for Estrada’s WBC and Ring Magazine super flyweight titles. As part of our build-up to fight night, Big Fight Weekend are looking at three ways Bam can defeat El Gallo.

Three Potential Ways Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez Can Defeat Juan Francisco Estrada

Speed and Footwork

Bam has exceptional hand speed and footwork – proven in his impressive victory over Sunny Edwards. He is adept at closing the distance and letting his hands go with great accuracy – which will upset Estrada, who doesn’t always deal well with pressure fighters.

Bams laser-like jab, with his fast hands and great footwork, will help him dictate the pace of the fight, and the qualities will unsettle El Gallo and make it difficult for the Mexican.

Counterpunching

Another weapon in Bam’s article is his brilliant ability to counterpunch. His footwork allows him to get out of range of his opponent as they move in to punch, allowing himself to counter effectively, using his fast-hand speed.

Estrada will be looking to work the body of his younger opponent to slow him down – but Bam is brilliant at pouncing when his opponent attacks, and El Gallo will have to use all his experience to avoid the acute counterpunching of his Texan opponent, who will look to counter Estrada’s big right hand, with his left.

Jab

Bam needs to assert his control in the fight early like he did last time against Edwards, and the way to do that is by controlling the distance with his jab. His jab was so much more than a distance controller in his last fight – it was a weapon that marked the English fighter up early on and set the tone for the fight.

What makes his jab so effective is his lead foot. He uses it to feint before he lets his jab go with incredible accuracy.

El Gallo is one of the greatest small-weight fighters of all time, but Bam has already made himself a legend – but now it is time to conquer super flyweight, and if Rodriguez can implement these tactics, it will make it difficult for Estrada to win.
