Unbeaten Junior Welterweight Eyes Title Shot on Top Rank Card

Top Rank Boxing has announced that Mexican Olympian Lindolfo Delgado (19-0, 14 KOs) will fight for the first time in 2024 in a 10-rounder against his fellow countryman Carlos Sanchez (25-2, 19 KOs) on the undercard of Oscar Valdez vs. Liam Wilson on Friday, March 29. The card is promoted by Top Rank and streamed live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+.  Elsewhere on the card, the co-feature alongside Valdez-Wilson will be Seniesa Estrada vs. Yokasta Valle in their highly anticipated showdown for the undisputed minimumweight crown. Ahead of his 2024 bow, Delgado has spoken following a recent training session at the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy.

The return of Delgado will see the Mexican fighter put his 100% record on the line as he looks to enter the junior welterweight title picture. Delgado has enjoyed a steady ascent from prospect to contender, with impressive wins coming against the heavy-handed, then-unbeaten Omar Aguilar in August 2022 and most recently against Luis Hernandez Ramos. Sanchez enjoyed an impressive amateur career and has only lost twice in his professional journey – and will face his old sparring partner off the back of a decision win against Carlos Diaz in December.

Delgado Post Training Quotes

Following the recent training session at the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy, Delgado spoke about facing a familiar opponent: “Carlos Sanchez is a very good fighter. I’ve known him since we were kids because he would fight in the national Olympics as well. He’s a strong fighter. I remember a lot about him because we used to train together. And we used to spar together. The sparring was really good. It was always competitive. You never knew who would come out on top in our sparring. So, I think it’s going to be a really good fight.”

Delgado also spoke about the importance of improving: “I’ve been working on myself. Like in every fight, I always try to improve myself. I don’t focus too much on my opponents. I try to improve anything I feel that needs work. So I’m working on moving in the ring better, moving my waist, and connecting punches with more power and with more accuracy.”

“Fans can expect a really good fight like always. You’re going to see Lindolfo Delgado who is very prepared and concentrated. We’re working very hard. And I want to look better in every fight, so if I looked good in my last fight, I’m going to look even better in this one, Delgado said!
