Ryan Garcia Reveals Latest News on What Could Come Next

Ryan Garcia has been seemingly chasing a fight with Rolando Romero, which he seemed to feel was close – but Romero has now signed to face Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz on March 30. The bout will take place in Las Vegas as the co-feature on the first pay-per-view for Premier Boxing Champions under its new deal with Amazon Prime Video. Following the news of Romero-Cruz, it now seems that Garcia is returning to negotiations to fight Devin Haney, as mentioned by Dan Rafael via his Fight Freaks Unite Substack.

Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney

Rafael has mentioned in his Substack that Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia have returned to the negotiating table to make the much-anticipated DAZN PPV fight for April 20. What’s next for Garcia has been much talked about since “KingRy” returned to winning ways against Oscar Duarte. To begin with, Garcia asked his promoter, Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya to arrange a fight with Haney. De La Hoya followed his wishes and connected with Eddie Hearn at Matchroom to arrange the bout. After some advice from the legendary Floyd Mayweather, Garcia changed his mind and publicly revealed he wanted the Romero fight – who is with Mayweather Promotions.

De La Hoya has confirmed recently, in a recent interview with Fight Hub TV: “We have April 20th.” Now it seems “KingRy” wants to return to the original plan of fighting Haney, who last time out routed Regis Prograis to take his 140-pound title on December 9, 2023.

Quotes from Both Camps

The Substack report from Rafael refers to the quotes made by both camps about negotiations, with Haney posting on social media: “Ryan Garcia, talk to your boy Oscar De La Hoya.” Garcia was quick to respond: “Let me see what’s going on,” and he quickly followed up: “Things are moving forward, Devin Haney. Just hit Oscar. He will talk to Bill (Haney, Devin’s father, trainer and manager) later on (Friday). We will get this done.”

Haney is a master counterpuncher who controls the distance brilliantly in his fights, and these attributes vs. the punching speed of Garcia – make for an intriguing contest – should negotiations be successful.
