New World Boxing Representative About To Be Written Into British History
After plenty of speculation, it has now been officially confirmed that Welsh boxer Lauren Price will face English boxer Kirstie Bavington in what will be the first ever female British championship bout.
28 year old Price is set to face 30 year old Bavington to decide the British welterweight title, with the fight being held in Birmingham on May 6, and Price obviously comes into the historic clash as a firm favourite in many peoples eyes as she recently lifted the Gold medal and became middleweight champion at the Tokyo Olympics and is, so far, currently unbeaten during her professional career.
Betting odds for any sportsbook app user who would like a small flutter will be widely available for this one, and there are bound to be good odds available for Bevington as well, given she has seven wins to her own name – when compared to Price’s three wins.
Although title fights are a natural mainstay in men’s boxing in the country, and have produced worldwide classics such as the 2015 clash between Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte and countless others fox boxing fans, the historical importance that this moment will provide was not lost on Price who described it as a ‘complete honour’.

When the decision was first made to sanction the first ever female British championship bout, British Boxing Board of Control’s General Secretary, Robert Smith, was quoted as saying that it was clearly another milestone for women’s boxing and it shows just how far the sport has come in recent years.
“Women’s boxing has come on tremendously and now we have a British Championship. The winner will indeed be a worthy champion of this historic bout.”
Whilst there is bound to be interest from the United States in how this fight plays out in the ring, the bout could well entice a few more eyes in purely on the basis that Price has herself just be confirmed as one of the two athletes’ representatives to the new breakaway international boxing federation that has been formed in an effort to help counter the threat that exists to the sports potential Olympic future. Despite her Olympic success, she is probably a bit of an unknown in the US market, so given her new position, there will be interest in finding out what kind of Boxer she actually is.
As many boxing fans will be keenly aware, following on from all the controversies faced by the International Boxing Association (IBA), ultimately the International Olympic Committee banned them back in 2019, and with the group refusing to comply with the recommendations provided, Boxing itself has not been named on the initial programme for the Los Angeles based 2028 Olympics and this is obviously causing Boxers and boxing fans some concern.
The United States form part of the interim board of the new World Boxing federation, alongside fellow representatives from Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines and Sweden and it is widely believed that the group will grow massively when they open member applications in May.
