Floyd Mayweather Jr. confronts Jake Paul at a Miami Heat Game

When it comes to the relationship between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his former fighter Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, there is this weird relationship that they have. The last few times ‘Tank’ had a fight or a press conference, Mayweather Jr. would either have an announcement or presser of his own at the same time. Today was no different as earlier on Instagram, Mayweather Jr. announced his next five fights. The caption read, “This is what my 2023 looks like so far…5 exhibitions in 5 countries in 9 months, and if any of these exhibitions don’t happen, I still get paid. I’m the most active hustler in boxing, my money is guaranteed.

This was hours before the press conference between Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia. Mayweather’s fight announcement went on deaf ears and didn’t get too much attention from the fans of the sweet science. What was trending on social media was the Davis and Garcia stuff which fell a little flat for the most part. Then something happened a few hours ago that we didn’t expect.

Both Mayweather Jr. and Jake Paul were at a Miami Heat game when apparently, Paul was confronted by Mayweather Jr. and his entourage. Paul said via Instagram stories, “So I’m leaving the Miami Heat game, and Floyd Mayweather and 50 dudes pull up out of nowhere, like from some side alley waiting for me outside the stadium. And they’re like, ‘so what’s up, what’s up with all that talk now?’ I’m like, ‘First of all, what did I say to you, Floyd? I just took your hat, and you’re still mad about it? Come on, bro’. And then 50 dudes literally start surrounding me to try to jump me. I’m out that b&tch. Floyd, you want to run it one on one, no problem. I’m not dumb. I’m tough; I don’t need to prove my toughness, but I’m not f$cking dumb. I’m not going to sit there and try to fight 50 dudes. Dipped outta that bitch. Floyd, you’re a hoe. You’re mad because I took your f$cking hat? Are you serious? Get over it, move on…move on.

The issues that Mayweather Jr. has with Paul stem back in 2021, when his brother Logan was at a press conference, and Jake took Mayweather’s hat. Jake ended up running with the slogan “gotcha hat,” which he made many off of with merchandise. Since then, there was always a discussion of the potential fight between Mayweather and Paul, but nothing ever materialized, more than likely due to the weight differential.

This incident immediately took over social media and started to trend in the U.S. Even though his fight announcement didn’t get the traction he was looking for, Mayweather found a way to get the attention he sought by stirring the pot with the social media powerhouse Paul.
