Eddie Hearn Claim “Someone Not Telling Truth” to Kambosos Disputed
The “war of words” outside of the ring is heating up between Undisputed Lightweight Champion George Kambosos of Australia and potential opponent to fight him in his home country, WBC secondary world champ, Devin Haney. And, the representatives of each are blaming each other, too.
First, it was Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, who’s negotiating for the unbeaten Californian Haney, speaking out Friday afternoon in London. Hearn made clear to IFL TV after the weigh in for the Saturday night Daniel Jacobs-John Ryder Super Middleweight main event that Kambosos and his team have been given an offer by DAZN streaming and Hearn for the fight to be staged “down under.”
And further, Hearn says he believes that Kambosos isn’t being told the truth about what’s on the table for a potential defense with Haney,
“I love George Kambosos. I don’t want to pick holes in what he’s saying, but someone is not telling George Kambosos the truth,” Hearn told the outlet.
“Because DAZN are very, very happy for Kambosos against Haney. There also very happy for Kambosos against Ryan Garcia. He’s a big draw. We’ve already spoke to DAZN. There’s a deal in place to try and make this happen (Kambosos-Haney). We’ve made an offer to Kambosos and Lou Dibella, his team…
Devin Haney is ready to go. And, I hope George sees this email…there’s no money issues. There’s no vaccine issues. There’s no nothing. He will take the fight.”
However, the 20-0 Australian, who stunned former Undisputed Lightweight champ Teofimo Lopez late last year, isn’t bashful about airing out his opinions and giving updates on social media.
So, he got into a back and forth Twitter exchange with Haney on Saturday. And, Kambosos made clear that the offer Hearn is referencing above is a joke to he and his team,
Because the best are fighting the best! Kambosos, Lopez, Loma. Why not accept Lou’s offer then? Then we got a fight! Or you rather counter offer, low ball then lie and make it out like we don’t want to splatter your face across the ring 🤷🏻♂️ come back to me when your serious mate https://t.co/rB7ixKJHov

Further, DiBella elaborated to Boxingscene.com later on Saturday that not only is Kambosos aware of the offer that Hearn is talking about, but he blasted back that it was not legitimate for them,
“I made the offer first to DAZN because Eddie Hearn has nothing to do with my fighter, despite the fact that since before the fight with Teofimo, he was trying to confuse people and act like he did,” DiBella told BoxingScene.com. “But I made an offer to him over a month ago. Within an hour of one another, I made the offer to both DAZN and Eddie. DAZN told me Eddie would counter the offer. Eddie countered the offer [on January 28] with something that was beyond insulting….
“We’ve moved on. OK? And, by the way, there’s a lot of concern in Australia, even though Bill and Devin keep saying they’ll do whatever it takes, they’ve made it very clear they’re not yet vaccinated. There’s about to be a law put into effect, potentially, in Australia, where you must be boostered – not only fully vaccinated, but boostered, to go to an event. So, I mean, the reality is I made an offer weeks and weeks ago. It was countered with something that was not only an unfair response, it was preposterous.
“Eddie going around saying he never received an offer from us, when the people who he does business with at DAZN, who are his benefactors, 100-percent know that he’s not telling the truth.”
DiBella is correct that Hearn has nothing to do with Kambosos’ deals. Further, he also doesn’t promote Garcia, as that’s Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions.
And, we wait to see if Kambosos (like he referenced later on Twitter Saturday night) and DiBella will move on to making a battle with another fighter Hearn has nothing to do with- former Undisputed champ Vasiliy Lomachenko. He’s s handled by Bob Arum and Top Rank Boxing. Lomachenko would be the bigger draw and has also made clear that he would fight in Australia, too.
The belief that a Kambosos-Lomachenko bout would be for May-June, if, of course the money is right for both.
There is not doubt that the last part…is the most important part.
