Terence Crawford Trainer On Porter Fight- “It Will Get Done”

Confidence is riding high (isn’t it always) that the World Boxing Organization mandated world Welterweight title fight between unbeaten world champ Terence Crawford and former WBC world champ, Shawn Porter will be happening later this year. And, Crawford’s longtime advisor/trainer is very confident the anticipated bout will happen.

In a report with exclusive comments, boxing insider Dan Rafael wrote Sunday night for World Boxing News, that Brian “Bomac” McIntyre gave him arguably the biggest vote of confidence, yet that Crawford-Porter will be up next,

“It’s go time. Now there will be no doubt that Bud is 147-pound supreme,” McIntyre told Rafael. “After beating Porter we want the winner of (Errol) Spence-(Manny) Pacquiao.

It will get done.”

That mega-fight PPV will be happening on August 21st from Las Vegas with the 37-0 Crawford anxious to get in the mix for humongous pay day against either Pacquiao or Spence in the first part of 2022.

As we have written previously, Porter has repeatedly said recently that he’s willing to fight Crawford coming in October or even, early November. And, that the two of them have been privately communicating and discussing the proposed bout that could be either exclusively on ESPN PPV or a joint agreement with Porter’s outlet, PBC and Fox Sports, etc.

The biggest complication is that Crawford is in the final stage of a multi-million dollar deal with Top Rank Boxing/ESPN and has one more fight remaining with them. It’s believed that he will then explore signing on for at least a couple of fights with Premier Boxing Champions who handles Pacquiao, Spence, Porter and several other prominent Welterweights that Crawford has been unable to fight due to him being with PBC’s rival, Top Rank.

Rafael also got comments from Top Rank’s owner, Bob Arum on whether Crawford fighting Porter could get hung up due to the acrimony between he and PBC’s Al Haymon,

“The way we plan to approach it is the first thing we’re going to do is talk with Porter’s (team) at PBC and see what they want to do,” Arum exclusively told World Boxing News.

“Do they want to do it jointly? We’re doing a fight jointly Oct. 9 (for the rescheduled Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder third heavyweight title fight). We’ll have to see where they stand on it and then they’ll talk to Porter, we’ll talk to Crawford and try to put it together.

“I know Porter wants the fight because I had a nice conversation with his father (and trainer Ken Porter) a couple of months ago about that fight.”

Obviously, there’s great interest from both fighters.

Now, will the deal get done for late in October or early in November for Crawford to fight a fighter that gives him an avenue to bigger PBC dollars?

Getting that accomplished is the only thing actually matters.
