Shawn Porter cruises to easy PBC Saturday night win

As expected, former WBC World Welterweight champ Shawn Porter dominated his little-known German opponent in the main event Saturday night for “PBC on Fox” in Los Angeles.

Porter took control of his bout with unbeaten but unheralded, Sebastian Formella, almost from the opening bell. He continually scored frequently with jabs, lead right hands and follow-up combinations, as he had little trouble controlling round after round.

The judges agreed giving him a shutout unanimous decision win 120-108 on all three cards, improving him to 32-3-1.

Porter, who was fighting for the first time since losing his WBC belt in the Unification World Title fight against Errol Spence last September, was crisp and obviously in great shape. A sample of his work here:

Porter ended up out-landing the game Formela 304-148 on his way to the easy win.

Porter had an opportunity late in the sixth round to potentially in the fight, when he scored a combination of a right and a left uppercut backing Formella into a his own corner. He landed another left hook just before the bell with veteran referee Jack Reiss looking in closely.

Formella, who had never fought in the U.S. before Saturday, recovered enough in between rounds and continued to gamely fight on, despite being out landed almost three-to-one in punches.

“He (Formella) was tough. After about six rounds my dad (his trainer) said, ‘Ok he’s taking these punches and he’s gonna keep taking them. Keep the pressure on him and keep dogging him,’ Porter told Fox Sports immediately after his latest win.

As we wrote leading up to this one Saturday, Porter now hopes to put himself squarely back in front of Errol Spence in a rematch. Spence is slated to make his return in November on a Fox pay-per-view against Danny Garcia. Porter previously defeated Garcia by decision earlier in 2019.

Meanwhile, the unbeaten IBF/WBC 147 lb. champ, Spence seemed unimpressed watching the action on Saturday night:

Now, we wait to see if Spence wins and if PBC and the fighters agree to a second Spence-Porter in 2021.
