After an entertaining undercard, it was time for Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn 2. It was a tense opening round, but a better one from Benn as he took the centre of the ring, working well off his jab. He also landed some good body shots while restricting Eubank to one right hand.

The bright start from Benn (24-1, 14 KOs) continued in the second round, looking light on his feet and working well off that jab. A closer third round saw Eubank Jr (35-4, 25 KOs) begin to edge forward, but Benn still landed the more telling punches.  The speed and movement appeared to unsettle Eubank in the first four rounds.

Eubank landed a nice right hand in the sixth, which seemed to bounce off Benn’s chin, but he was outworked by Benn once again. The agile work from Benn continued over the next couple of rounds, as Eubank struggled to land anything of real note. Eubank finally had some notable success at the end of the eighth round, but Benn took the punches well.

The jab of Benn was exceptional, and he continued to control the fight with that, working well off it with variety. Eubank Jr looked devoid of ideas through 10 rounds.

Despite a nice uppercut from Eubank, Benn continued to move well and landed a big shot to knock Eubank Jr down. Despite beating the count, Benn pounced and landed another clubbing right hand to score another knockdown. Eubank showed his bravery again and made it to his feet to hear the final bell. Both fighters gathered to hear the scorecards, which read 119-107, 116-110, and 118-108, all in favour of Conor “The Destroyer” Benn.

Was it one step too far for Eubank Jr? Regardless, it was a great tactical performance from Benn, who deserved the victory.

Jack Catterall vs Ekow Essuman

Next up in the chief support to Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn 2 was a welterweight clash between Jack Catterall (32-2, 14 KOs) and Ekow Essuman (22-2, 8 KOs) for the WBO global title.

Catterall started brightly and used his jab to establish the distance. It was a bright opening three rounds from Catterall, as he moved well and picked his punches impressively.

Essuman bounced back well after the knockdown, applying plenty of pressure and having success in the sixth and seventh rounds. Catterall appeared to be panicking slightly in the seventh due to a nasty cut he sustained. The pressure from Essuman was to be admired, and he began to drag himself back into the fight, with Catterall still letting his impressive combinations off.

As the fight reached the final two rounds, the continued pressure from Essuman was extraordinary, but Catterall still landed impressive shots, despite looking fatigued. The 36-year-old Botswana native was soon in trouble as Catterall landed some vicious shots, knocking Essuman out of the ring, with the referee waving the fight off.
